The White Shark Trust Field Research Assistantship is proud to introduce you to our assistants:

Edward FARRELL (Dublin, Ireland), Clova JURK (Perth, Scotland), Sarah BAHAN (Idaho, USA), and Barney DUNLOP (Bath, England)

Timo SECKLER (Ellenberg, Germany) has been our assistant since the 15th of July 2005. He assisted with the manual telemetry tracking of White Sharks in Mossel Bay during the month of August.

Andy Brandy CASAGRANDE IV has been our assistant, guest and especially friend since September 2003, and he has been living in Gansbaai and assisting the White Shark Trust during most of 2004 and now again in 2005.

On Tuesday the 6th of December 2005, we launched Lamnidae on a much more beautiful day than yesterday... We waiting a couple of hours before our first White Shark appeared... but for the next two hours, we had one of three large White Sharks constantly swimming around the boat... Very nice day! And the team is once again reunited on Lamnidae!
Waiting for the Sharks, Ed and Barney decided to try their skills at fishing... and they proved to be quite successful at catching fish, but certainly not at handling them looking at the frightened expressions on their faces when it came to take the hook out... Anyway... We observed six different White Sharks today!
Below are some photographs taken by Andy today... The underwater visibility was around two meters, but close-up shots with a 16mm lense makes the water appear much clearer than was it was...
In October 2003, we welcomed the German television program VOX Wolkenlos who was filming a travel documentary about South Africa on board Lamnidae. Today, we welcomed the same film team again along with two lovely ladies around whom the documentary will focus. I asked Timo, who is from Germany, to remain on the boat...
The rest of the team, Sarah, Clova, Andy, Ed and Barney were shuttled back to shore in the afternoon to retain the maximum number of passengers Lamnidae is allowed to carry.

While the soon-to-be-famous Timo was washing Lamnidae, Ed and Barry made a manly fire in the braai area in the garden, and grilled their proud catch of the day! Our dogs, Billy and Max, were waiting with anticipation for some morsels...
