The White Shark Trust Field Research Assistantship is proud to introduce you to our assistants:

Justin HUBBEL (Anaheim, California, USA), Lorin J. FINNIE (Reigate, Surrey, England), Phillip SMITH (Ithaca, New York, USA) and Ronald NEALY (Freeport, Florida, USA)

Chris MILNES (Grantham, Lincolnshire, England), one of our old assistants from 2003 and 2004, has also come back to visit and is also volunteering for the White Shark Trust.

On Sunday the 24th of April 2005, we were invited on board Barracuda, the Shark Diving Unlimited cage diving boat. Shortly after anchoring on the eastern side of Shark Alley, we observed some activity a hundred meters from the boat. One or several White Sharks had made a kill or were scavenging on a Cape Fur Seal. The gulls are always a good sign, but the fin definitely gave it away...
Barracuda only had a couple of guests today, and this gave our assistants a second chance at diving in the Shark cage... We observed five different White Sharks today, and Chris, Justin, Phil, Lorin and Ron had a great couple of hours in the cage as these Sharks swam past the cage... You can see below some of the pictures Justin took underwater...
The Gansbaai Municipality had to conduct some repairs on the electrical network, and Gansbaai was without electricity the whole day... So, in the afternoon, we made a fire and did a nice braai... Most probably our earliest braai ever... The power came back on at nine in the evening... (Just in time for Ron to finish watching 'The Specialist')
Below are some photographs taken by Justin Hubbell today from the cage...
