The White Shark Trust Field Research Assistantship is proud to introduce you to our assistants:

Justin HUBBEL (Anaheim, California, USA), Lorin J. FINNIE (Reigate, Surrey, England), Phillip SMITH (Ithaca, New York, USA) and Ronald NEALY (Freeport, Florida, USA)

Chris MILNES (Grantham, Lincolnshire, England), one of our old assistants from 2003 and 2004, has also come back to visit and is also volunteering for the White Shark Trust.

On Thursday the 7th of April 2005, we observed ten different White Sharks... Great day! A few of the Sharks remained around the boat for long periods, and we even had the pleasure to see a really huge (most probably over five meters!) White Shark swimming by, but she remained deep unfortunately... Very nice day!
A pod of probably 300 to 500 Common Dolphins swam past the east side of Dyer Island today... That was truly amazing! And I had not seen a huge pod of Dolphin like that one in a couple of years... We liftted anchor and followed the Dolphins offshore for a while, but they must have been on a mission... they were porpoising full speed southwards...
This week, Shark Diving Unlimited (SDU) was running a Scientific Expedition for an Italian group lead by Primo Micarelli (Aquarium Monte Argentario). This is the third annual expedition organised by Primo, and nine participants discovered the world of White Sharks this year. Over the past week, Michael Scholl (WST), Michael Rutzen (SDU) and Jenna CAINS (SDU) have given them a series of talks on the biology, ecology and research on White Sharks, and the group went diving with White Sharks, Cape Fur Seals and Catsharks the whole week.

On Thursday evening, their guesthouse in De Kelders, On the Rocks, organised a wonderful sunset cruise on board the African Queen along the Kleinrivier from Stanford. Great evening...
