The White Shark Trust Field Research Assistantship is proud to introduce you to our assistants:

Benjamin WESTROPE (Wilmington, North Carolina, USA), Jennifer LEE (Arcadia, California, USA) and Christopher POOLE (Nottingham, England).

On the 16th of April 2004, we welcomed Alex J. RILEY from Nottingham, England.

Our first winter storm hit our coastline on Thursday evening, and lasted for a couple of days. On Sunday the 18th of April 2004, Shark Diving Unlimited invited our assistants to join them on board Barracuda. The ocean was still very rough, but at least they were on the largest boat in the area... They observed four or five different White Sharks today...
Monday the 19th of April 2004... a grey day... but we managed to get out after the spring low tide in the late morning... We observed five different White Sharks today... the swell around the island was well over two meters, but we found a relatively protected area to anchor. This is our first "blue water" (i.e. crystal clear) day this upcoming winter season...
On Tuesday the 20th of April 2004, we were welcomed to join Shark Diving Unlimited again... We were quite happy to be on a large boat again since the seas were still unsettled and a relatively strong NWesterly wind started blowing mid-morning picking up the ocean swiftly. We observed nine different White Sharks today, and Alex had a great time in the cage...
Wednesday the 21st of April 2004, a second cold front / small winter storm of the season slashed against our coastline, and the ocean got rough... A large offshore storm on Monday brought some huge swell to our coast by Wednesday evening, and the sea was extremely rough on Thursday the 22nd of April... The winter has really started, but at least it is not raining yet, so it is nice on land...
With the start of the winter season, we have had bad weather and sea conditions during the past week, and some of our web site visitors are getting bored from the lack of updates or new pictures... Below is a small selection of some of our best pictures taken over the past couple of years... Enjoy!
