Chris FIORESCU has been assisting us since October 2002 as a guest. The White Shark Trust Field Research Assistantship is proud to introduce you to our assistants:
Lydia HO from Toronto (Canada), Costa KONNARIS from Cyprus, Jennie SANDBERG from Galveston (USA), Linda HEAP from Perth (Australia) and Paul GROVES from Perth (Australia).
Following the last few days with no sharks... we thought it best to take a few days off... Jenny, Lydia, Linda, Costas and Paul decided to go for a little road trip along the Garden Route...

Costas seemed to have found his place as soon as the rental car arrived...

On Wednesday the 5th of February, we moved our field work to Struisbaai near Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of the African continent... region renown for its White Sharks... Struisbaai is about 100kms to the south east of Gansbaai. We stayed in Struisbaai for 5 days.
In the evening, we braaied some fresh fish caught the same day on the terrasse of our new temporary home in Struisbaai to celebrate our first shark in the area!

Struisbaai is on the Indian Ocean, and we could notice the water temperature difference... it felt good swimming and surfing in the waves for a change...

Costas behaving his usual self and using his natural and charming talents... always good entertainment!

The girls find him even funny when looking at these pictures... got to be good!

A nice fish braai and some beers, a true South African tradition!

On our way back to the little harbour of Struisbaai on our second day, we encountered several pods of dolphins near the beach and further out at sea... hundreds of dolphins in the whole Struisbaai bay... an amazing and wonderful experience!
We are very thankful to Struisbaai House Rentals for organising our accommodation during our stay, and to Chris Smith for accommodating us in his house at a good rate.
