In September 2002, the White Shark Trust welcomed four Field Research Assistants: Laura Jane POOLE from Aberdeen (Scotland), Helen Sarah FINDLEY from Southampton (England), Alasdair HARRIS from Edinburgh (Scotland) and Camille MELLIN from Thiverval Grignon (France).
Wednesday, the 18th of September, looked at first horrible with dense fog... at around noon, the fog cleared and the day turned into a wonderful day at sea...

The sharks were slow though, but we observed three sharks in total. The "baby" 150cm shark visited us again today... small but what a character! She acts like a much larger shark...

This is the tiny "baby" shark estimated at around 150-170 cm total length...

The third shark we observed was very calm, but also very interested in our bait... that shark also had an ultrasonic transmitter that was attached on this shark in Mossel Bay (around 300kms East of Gansbaai) in June 2002.
On Thursday the 19th of September, we observed seven sharks. We were joined by Ryan Johnson and we successfully tagged four sharks with ultrasonic coded transmitters. These transmitters will be picked up by the three monitors deployed around Dyer Island.
