At the end of September 2002, the White Shark Trust welcomed four new Field Research Assistants:
Manuel GORDILLO from Madrid (Spain), Victoria MILLS from North Devon (England), Hyun KOUNNE from Cambridge (USA), and Polly CROUCH from Aberdeen (Scotland)

Manuel GORDILLO left on the 13th of October to go back to Spain...

Sunday the 13th of October... Manuel's doom departure day... we all went to Simon's Town and to the Waterfront in Cape Town before driving him to the airport...

We were all sad to see Manuel, alias "Austin Powers", or "Great Cornellio", or "Crazy Spaniard", leave... but Manuel will be back!!! So it is only a "Au Revoir!"...

Tuesday the 15th of October 2002... at first a windy and rough day... but the wind and sea calmed down, and it turned into a fantastic day!

A mother and calf Southern Right Whales passed by... and seven Great White Sharks...

One of the seven sharks observed today was about 450cm long and as wide as the boat!

She was an amazing and impressive sight... It is quite rare to observe White Sharks larger than four meters, and, as always, everybody is just amazed...
